Dr. Stephen Lewis (b. 1983) is a composer, pianist, conductor, and educator living in Portland, Oregon. A multi-faceted musician, Stephen performs traditional piano music with a cutting-edge composer’s urgency while bringing a classical concert pianist’s devotion to beautiful sound and expressive power to avant-garde and experimental music. He searches for a rawness and immediacy in his interpretations of Beethoven and Chopin while also helping win over audiences with his renditions of complex atonal works by the likes of Schoenberg, Stockhausen, and Ligeti. Stephen performs music he believes has important and moving implications for today’s world from both the present and past and seeks to invite audiences in to share it with him. He believes that even the most demanding music is an opportunity for connection, edification, and meaningful experience.
Program will include music by J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, György Ligeti, & Maurice Ravel.
