Nouveau Quatuor, a Baroque ensemble based in Portland, will perform a program of four trio sonatas at baroque pitch (A-415).
The ensemble features Jas. Adams on Baroque flute, Austin DeSimone on violin, Marny Elicker on violoncello, and David Studhalter on harpsichord. The program will consist of four trio sonatas by four Baroque masters, each quite distinctive and displaying the creative genius of the composer.
Jean Baptiste Loeillet, Trio Sonata in F major, Op II/2
Johann Sebastian Bach, Trio Sonata in G major (BWV 1038)
Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach, Trio Sonata in G major (WQ 153)
Georg Philip Telemann, Trio Sonata in E minor (TWV 42:e2)
Austin DeSimone played violin professionally in the Orquesta Synphonica Municipal del Caracas (Venezuela) and the Alabama Symphony before taking up a career in the world of IT. Since re-emerging from musical retirement, he has had one of his violins retrofitted as a baroque violin and now studies baroque violin with Portland Baroque Orchestra’s violinist Adam LaMotte.
Marny Elicker began studying the cello as an adult and has performed with various community orchestras. Along with Nouveau Quatuor, she is a member of Willamette Falls Symphony and Bridgetown Baroque. Her current passion is the baroque cello. She studies with Adaiha Macadam-Somers, cellist/viola da gamba player in the Portland Baroque Orchestra.
David Studhalter, a longtime amateur keyboard player with a penchant for Bach and earlier music, began playing baroque chamber music as a continuo harpsichordist in 2016 with Nouveau Quatuor and currently is also one of two continuo players in the Bridgetown Baroque ensemble. He is a member of several amateur piano workshop groups and the organizer of Portland Piano Players Meetup. Seemeetup.com/portland-piano-players.
Jas. Adams, a founding board member of the Early Music Guild of Oregon and the Portland Baroque Orchestra, has played recorder & baroque flute or sung in early music ensembles such as the Young Audience Renaissance Quartet, Reed College Collegium Musicum, the PBO Chorus, Big Mouth Society Baroque Orchestra, and Bridgetown Baroque. He notes: “All of us in Nouveau Quatuor truly love the sonorities of baroque music played on period instruments.”
